This is (some) Americans' view of "balanced" journalism. To send a Beatles fan would be "bias," as would sending someone who dislikes the Beatles. So the only thing to do is to send someone who has no idea of what they're looking at. It's the eternal fairness of the spotless mind.
So is it biased for a journalist to do a little research before interviewing somebody? You don't even have to go to a library anymore. Just google John Lennon. I'm sure there's something there.
