I never had any kind of curtains on my windows in China. My bedroom and laundry room faced a field. The other side of the house faced another house but my kitchen was at roof level with the house across the street. Without curtains the light from my windows attracted all manner of flying insects at night. The flying insects attracted geckos. I grew up with geckos, especially in Durban, so they do not bother me.

My weirdest insect experience was the day I saw a thick black cloud of ladybugs descend from the sky. Apparently they were migrating. I was at work, but outside at the time, and it was sort of surreal. The air was thick with ladybugs.
Fleas, though, are by far the worse. Would you believe as an owner of multiple animals it took an ex-boyfriend of mine to infest my house with fleas? It was a nightmare. The house was vacant (except for when my fleabag ex was breaking in) and on the market. I went back there one day, and within minutes there were hundred of fleas all over my legs. I ran outside and quickly brushed them all off.
I think being infested with fleas by an ex-boyfriend is appropriate. But the ladybird swarm is weird. I've never seen more than 1 at a time.
Photos of your shopping perhaps?
I had ants in my pants too. I had to go to the doctor and take my pants off to show him what they did to my bottom.
Any excuse to drop your drawers.
I loved the line "Fleas can jump very high so you have to eat standing up. " - the only advice I would add is to jump every once in a while while doing that with say, something sloshy, like a bowl of breakfast cereal, and then video record the whole thing.
Oddly enough I was thinking of cereal when I mentioned standing up. Fleas will jump in the bowl if you're seated.
