My Favourite Sedarim

The time I accidentally brought two dates. As an unwritten rule we try not to bring anybody we are not serious about. Not that anybody would mind but we like to save the real torture for those who deserve it most. I was not really serious about either of them but I was a young rebel at the time and I had completely forgotten that I’d invited one when I invited the other. It was uncomfortable for a few people, especially my dates, but I thought it was funny. This was probably my mother’s favourite seder because she got to interrogate two boys for the price of one.

I read your blog mainly because I enjoy your style of writing and the approach to important universal topics such as family, life, war, beatles (I am not a beatle fan but these fans make up interesting objects of close study). You have a tongue in cheek irony But I think a bit too blisteringly probing to be truly lyrical although the weight of the thoughts add a level of fragility that creates its own tensions. I cannot bring myself to expose my style in such a way in a blog. I am too shy and not confident enough and besides, I do not have your obvious talent.

With a bit of work, this post could be right up there with publishable material. But you must have this said to you often.

I like these ten montages. The way some are juxtaposed as well as the contrast that the emotive content brings out with the coolness of the words and voice.

You post, I am sure, not to have your words examined like this, but I could not resist because I want to say that you have a talent that you should export more widely and a level of experience in your short life that, as neil young would have it, you should say "in the field of opportunity its plowing time again."

I cant think of anything heavy from the beatles. Perhaps "yeah yeah yeah."

Thank you for the compliment. If I were more prolific I'd likely become self-conscious in my next post. But that probably won't be for a few days.

I'm a little surprised anybody would see so much in this particular post. I just typed up the first few things that entered my mind. If I thought more about it I'm sure the list would be much longer.

As the Beatles might say, words are flowing out like endless rain into a paper cup. They slither wildly as they slip away across the universe.

As far as being shy, everybody's got something to hide except for me and my monkey.

You will admit, even if you are surprised, that the topic is unusual, i.e. Pesach in Israel, China, Jie Yi coming, Dave from China, Papa..... children.

All strong anchors for short paragraphs. Interesting.

Note: I am not one to make compliments or judgements. I might be a bit didactic at times and I tend to know what I like- Like good writing. I always say this to my daughter: Read everything and learn to write good.

But papa she says, write good?

Ah dear, you are so smart!

Listen to your daughter, I always say.

I couldn't agree more. What looks like random thoughts to you is pretty interesting reading to the rest of us.
