Hello Dalai

I like China. It is a beautiful country with interesting people. The government is not entirely bad once you push past all the paperwork. They export a lot of cheap crap but if they did not you know that India would.

To be perfectly hardnosed about this, there is a sense that we in the west should Make China Bleed. This is not my view, but reflects a potential cynical view of the situation in Tibet and world politics.

This perspective is not new. It is the same view many had in Government circles in the west with regard to South Africa in other days. The more focus there was on internal SA affairs and disruption, the less likely SA would be able to complete their incursions in UK, USA, and Eastern bloc spheres of influence elsewhere in Africa.

What exactly is this movement anyway to free tibet?

To quote a canadian right wing paper "After all, what could be more ineffectual that protests against a non-democratic government which is utterly indifferent to words? Tibet has no great store of resources or other valuables. Nor is it positioned in an area which any particular strategic value of the West."

But one can go on from here and argue that the unrest in Tibet is worth at least a couple of Corps of very well trained military forces to tactically pin the People's Army in one place while gaining strategic force against China's current military buildup.

China is the main supplier to Iran, Taliban etc. China is doing something similar with its arm sales. Supportin asymetical wars while its armed forces, the People’s Liberation Army could be a devastating enemy if it was permitted to maintain a focus.

Tibet offers an opportunity for the West to force China into an unsymetric situation that the china army of mass is ill equiped to deal with and must of course steal from their potential punch elsewhere.

Cynical no?

Free Tibet now. China needs to learn that having the most people and a large army doesn't give them the right to imprison other nations.

Americans are allowed to peacefully protest the illegal occupation of Iraq, but whenever the Chinese protest their nations illegal acts there's a Tianamen Square.

How do you say free Tibet now in Chinese?

讓西藏自由.

If America wanted to turn Tibet into China's Vietnam they should've started that a long time ago. It's too late now.

I'm planning a return this winter so it's unlikely I'll go again in 2010.
