Knife in the Water
But Polanski did a horrible thing. I don’t think I am a judgemental person and I rarely condemn celebrities for their scandals, but I’m comfortable saying that what he did was completely wrong in every way. He drugged and raped a child very much against her consent. Her forgiving him does not change the nature of his horrible crimes. It has been pointed out that nobody else has ever accused him of such a thing. This was apparently a single incident. But it was still a terrible thing to do. He was experienced enough and smart enough to know better.

He should be strung up and shot. I oppose the dealth penalty except in cases like this. Being famous is no excuse for what he did to that poor girl. He stole her innocence and lived a life of luxery in France instead of behind bars where he belongs. If he wasn't famous he would have gone to prison a long time ago.
An unfortunate situation.
I'm not entirely sure what your point is here Mia, or if you're just talking it through.
Polanski's brilliance as a film-maker is not in question. I have no problem divorcing someone's art from their personal behaviour. Garry Glitter's music is no worse (or better) than it ever was. Phil Spector's (debatable) genius as a record producer doesn't change the fact that he's a psychopath.
Likewise, Polanski's traumatic personal history has no relevance to what he did. We know that people who have been traumatised themselves often go on to traumatise others. That may explain it, but is doesn't excuse it. I know you weren't suggesting that it does excuse him, but it does make me wonder why you'd mention it otherwise.
My only slight misgiving about this case is one of jurisdiction, but I'm glad it's been shown that justice will catch up with you in the end.
I'm sure he could have worked more if he could travel freely. Equally, if he had faced the music at the time, he would be free to work again now.
Justice will always prevail. Think of it. Always.
He would've got out of prison a long time ago had he stayed in the US, but it's very probable that he would've been deported anyway.
Alex, the girl he raped wants you to forgive him. Hanging and shooting him seems redundant.
The thing here is, he is Roman Polanski. If he was somebody else no one would care, including US government.
For many years the government didn't care.
