Quoth the Faith Healer

Something happened a long time ago in Haiti and, uh, people might not want to talk about it. They were under the heel of the French, uh, you know Napoleon the Third or whatever, and they got together and swore a pact to the Devil. They said, “We will serve you if you’ll get us free from the French.” True story. And so the Devil said, “Ok. It’s a deal”. And, uh, they kicked the French out of, you know, the Haitians revolted and got themselves free. But ever since they have been cursed by by one thing after the other. Desperately poor. That island of Hispaniola is one island. It’s cut down the middle. On the one side is Haiti. On the other side is the Dominican Republic. Dominican Republic is is prosperous, healthy, full of resource, etc. Haiti is in desperate poverty. Same island. Uh, they need to have and we need to pray for them a great turning to God and out of this tragedy I’m optimistic something good may come.

He probably meant Bonaparte and it's clear that he doesn't know what he is talking about.
People don't know a lot about the history of Americas if they knew they would never call USA America.

Dominican Republic was ruled by Spain, France and Haiti (yes ha!)until the country became independent. The idea that they let the European control them is wrong.

“We will serve you if you’ll get us free from the French.” True story. And so the Devil said, “Ok. It’s a deal”.

I would do the same to get rid off France.
Why? Look at French Guiana...

To be free sometimes we have to pay a very high price. Freedom is never free.

If only disaster aid were as swift, efficient and clearly directed as political opportunism.

Are the Devil's words really recorded for posterity somewhere? And how is it that Marion Robertson has a transcript of this conversation?

I detest ignorance. That kind of remark made by Marion Robertson is way beyond ignorance. It's cruel. And this person is supposed to be a Christian? Uh, I don't think so... :-)

I've found that most people have a good grasp of American history. Except Americans. I don't think they're taught much about the countries north and especially south of their borders. I've heard many Americans say there are only 3 countries in North America. Sometimes only 2.

Some uptight Israeli commentator said that if such a disaster happened in Israel there would be political preconditions for foreign aid. People like Robertson and Limbaugh show that the opportunists come out no matter where the tragedy.

There's an obvious answer to how Robertson always knows what the Devil says and thinks.

I don't think he's a Christian in the religious sense of the word. He's a Christian politically.

I'm glad to see people are calling him Marion. I'll be sure to take credit for that if it ever catches on.
