Passport to Thailand

I think Bangkok might be a little too much hustle and bustle for me, but the countryside looks beautiful.

I know what you mean about the food. I asked for it spicy a couple of times... and got what I asked for! While my meals may have felt like pain and burning, the flavors were fantastic. Thailand certainly ranks as one of my favorite culinary destinations.

Travel Chanel should fire Samantha Brown and give you the job. You understand the local culture and you want the real country, not the touristic one.
I see you follow Anthony Bourdain. I like him a lot.
I never had Thai food because I know I will not be eating something authentic.
The beach looks amazing. I am a big fan of country sides. Wherever you go, if you go to the country side, you see how the country is for real, the culture and traditions are more preserved, people are friendlier and less selfish, the food is fresh and better, etc.

We have Thai restaurants here in Vancouver, and I know they're authentic because we have a huge Thai population here. There is one place on Main Street where you can actually see smoke coming out of people's ears when they eat. *heh* But the food is wonderful.

That beach looks amazing.

Brazil has the largest Japanese population outside Japan. It doesn't mean the Japanese food there is authentic. In fact, Japanese immigrants just like any other immigrant try to adapt their food to the locals taste. There are many Italian immigrants in USA and the Italian food here is bad and far from being authentic, very far, not even close.

Every immigrant group I've ever encountered adjusts their food for local tastes. It's a simple matter of survival. The people at home might eat insects but that won't fly in Israel. There's also a matter of available ingredients. You could import whatever you need but that's too expensive for most small shop owners.

Bangkok is a very big city and great for people who like the noise, dirt, smell, crowds of big cities. But most of Thailand is just beautiful.

I don't know who Samantha Brown is but I wouldn't want a travel TV job. They only get to stay places for a short time and they're usually busy filmming stupid bits for the camera. You can't experience the culture that way.

Bourdain is different because he makes it clear when he's doing a stupid bit and he has a classic American traveller's attitude.
