Iran So Far Away

Much to nobody’s surprise Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was reelected in a landslide. According to his government. I don’t think the immediate charges of fraud surprised anybody either. What separates the evil doers from the rest of us is how they handle it. Mir-Hossein Mousavi encouraged his supporters to riot. Maybe that is his right. Maybe he has been wronged and sees no other way to make it right. Or maybe he is just a sore loser.

I would have said, one has to bow to the inevitable. I am not sure that has the same meaning as to bend over and take it! Oh you youngsters are so forward these days.

On the general approach to democracy, I must agree wholeheartedly with you. I am still ruminating though on the speech at one of your Universities.

quare: Is Iran actually far away? If not in the geographic sense then perhaps in the spirit of democracy.

Iran's farther away than a penny.

If you look at the United States, Al Gore bent over and the country got screwed.

I love the dialogue from pre-'60s movies. The writers went out of their way to not be forward. Often they had no choice. Being able to say whatever we want takes some of the poetry away but it's so much easier.

Americans have no right to complain about election fraud after 2000. We go around telling everyone how to do it, but we don't even know ourselves. We don't have any right to thumb our noses at other countries when we're no better.

Your take on the 2000 US election is hilarious!

Liberals have never stopped complaining about 2000. Talk about sore losers. In Iran's case there obviously was fraud. Just another dictator trying to usurp power regardless of the will of the people.

How do you distinguish an obvious fraud from sore losers?

As for Iran, I'm troubled by the buzz. I want to cheer and feel optimistic, but I've felt that way before - May 1989 to be exact. May 1989 turned into June 1989 and the hope was comprehensively snuffed out.

Then again, maybe all those who have never stopped complaining about Tiananmen Square are just a bunch or sore losers too.

That's easy. Sore losers are always the other guys.

Fab4fan [I'm not going to assume you're who I think you are], I think that election was a riot.
